Understanding your Tyre

Understanding your tyre size will make the purchase of your future tyres a lot quicker and easier. ‘Tyre Size’ contains information pertaining to its manufacturer, size, model etc.
You can find this information on the sidewall of your tyre and it will read something like: 175/70 R13 82T. The following is an explanation of all the nomenclature used for tyres:

The Markings on the sides of tyres describe two things:

  • The size and specification of the tyre
  • The fact the tyre has been tested and approved to fulfil legal safety standards

For Example

tyre size :  175/70r13 82t

The width (in mm) of the tyre’s cross section.

The ‘Aspect Ratio’- The ratio of the tyre’s section height: the width of the tyre’s cross section.

R

*R stands for Radial ply construction – the method by which most tyres are made.

* ZR means the tyre is adapted for speeds above 240 Km/h.

This is the diameter of the tyre’s inner rim in inches.

Load index is the maximum load a tyre can bear.(Refer Table Below)

Speed Symbol is the maximum speed for a tyre at full load.(Refer Table Below)
